The Koestler Trust is a prison arts charity who encourage ex-offenders to change their lives through taking part in the arts. Each year, The Koestler Awards attract more than 3000 entries across 50 different categories such as Fine Art, Writing and Performance.

This year has seen some fantastic success with the Academy Art class at HMP Nottingham where Milton Keynes College students have secured seven winning entries in the awards. Of those awarded, a gold award was received for a large group work entitled Tree of Life and a gold award for painting, as well as silver and bronze awards and commendations.

The Art programme has also received great feedback from the prison, especially from the Governor, for the works on canvas displayed around the prison. Students also created two murals in the education department. This has also helped to cement an excellent relationship between the education department and the prison.
